Certification and Training
At the heart of the mission of the International Clubmakers Guild is a commitment to ongoing education, training and certifiation of our members and the golf equipment industry as a whole.
The Technical Committee will be working on training materials, online testing , continuing education, regional course availability and other options in support of this mission.
Once available, they will be published here and made available to ICG members. If you are interested in assisting the committee with this process, please contact them and offer your services.

The most common question asked, and the only one in our FAQ is this:
Q: Can I apply my PCS Certification to the Guild Certification Exam?
A: Quite simply, no. If you wish to hold a certification from the International Clubmakers Guild, you need to complete the appropriate exams. I. ICG certification should be perceived as providing an impartial, third-party endorsement of an individual's professional knowledge and experience. ICG certification programs should be sponsored, or affiliated with, the PGA, suppliers, and vendors interested in raising golf industry standards. Our 100% independent programs will hopefully gain support and endorsement from the entire golfing community over time. A robust locator service that identifies members and their credentials will help direct web site visitors to ICG members in their geographic vicinity.
II. It is not the intent of the International Clubmakers Guild to have any member feel that his or her previous investment to attain certification was a waste. Therefore, all International Clubmakers Guild members holding certification from other associations or Clubmaking organizations are welcomed to use and advertise any and all such certificates and achievement documentation within the context and guidelines set forth by the International Clubmakers Guild. The Technical Committee has further determined that previous levels of certification cannot be grandfathered toward ICG Certification. Recognition eligibility includes but is not limited to:
- Certified AGCP Clubmakers
- Certified GCA Clubmakers
- Certified I-PAC Clubmakers
- Certified PCS Clubmakers (now defunct)
- Clubmaking Training School graduates (certificate bearing)
- Europe, Asia, or Australian Clubmaker Training Certification
- Dynacraft Schools graduates
- Golfsmith Schools graduates
- GolfWorks Schools graduates
- Mitchell Golf Schools graduates
- Rifle School graduates
- Swing Science School graduates
- True Temper Black Gold graduates
III. The ICG Technical Committee shall provide comprehensive (written and practical skills demonstration) certification exams in Clubmaking & Repair and Clubfitting. We encourage all ICG members to obtain certification in the area(s) deemed appropriate for each particular member’s needs.
The certification exams may be taken in any order with no prerequisites other than access to the required tools and reference materials identified by the particular exam. Volunteer mentors will be available to answer members’ questions and provide encouragement during the course of their certification.
A third certification, ICG Master Clubmaker, shall be awarded to all members who have successfully completed the two previously identified certification exams along with successful completion of a project or thesis approved by the Technical Committee’s peer review panel.
IV. In addition, the ICG will offer a variety of on-line, automated (self-directed), continuing education (training) program modules on related (current) topics within each of the two main disciplines identified above. Completion certificates will be awarded to members as they successfully complete each continuing education module.
All certifications earned from the ICG are considered lifetime in nature for all ICG members in-good-standing.
